Pharaoh Hounds are an ancient breed. We've been interested in this breed for quite a while. And, in March of 2006, our little boy was born to Pam Haig in Tennessee. We received him on Friday, May 26, 2006. His official name is Mia-Churuka's Chasin' A Dream, but better known as Menkaure ("Menke", for short). His temperament is happy and fun, and he is a constant source of entertainment around the house. In July, 2007, we welcomed our Pharaoh girl, Cairo (Churuka-Mia Purple Rose of Cairo). She, too, is a very happy girl, very curious and a great companion to big brother, Menke.

The picture at right is Menke from his puppy days. The top photo is a couple of weeks after we got him. We had gone to visit his human grandparents and his dad, DC Churuka Anubis Inside Trader SC, in Antioch, CA. Grandma Linda brought him a new toy hedgehog. This picture was voted into the 2007 Pharaoh Hound Club of America calendar as Mr. May. The second picture is of Menke and Cairo sleeping together. They practice coursing together in our yard at least once a day, and are constantly playing, wrestling and snapping at each other (you with Pharaohs know what I'm talking about!)

As you can see from the picture at left, Menke is also quite comfortable amongst the Manchesters!
The second picture is Cairo, who likes sleeping on the same rug Menke grew up on. (The squares on the rug are also helpful in size comparisons as they grow!)

Menke doesn't enjoy the conformation shows nearly as much as coursing, but he definitely enjoys being the center of attention. He is always willing to stop and say "hello" to anyone who wants to see him (and sometimes those who don't necessarily want to see him, too). Below is a photo of his first BOB win in June, 2009. His first love, however, is lure coursing. He finished his ASFA Field Championship title (FCh) in December, 2008, and got his AKC Field Champion title (FC) in January, 2009.
Cairo attended her first confirmation dog shows on December 29 and 30, 2007. She and litter brothers, Wyatt and Viggo, also showed. Fun was had by all. And the puppies, just 6 months old, showed very well. Cairo was RWB the first day and WB/BOS the second day for her first conformation point! Brother Wyatt won WD the first day, too. Cairo and her brothers also showed in Woodland, CA, on May 10 & 11, 2008, with Cairo going WB/BW for a major, Best Puppy, and went on to a Hound Puppy Group One. She got her 1st BOB win in Gridley in June, 2009. At the 2009 Pharaoh Hound National Specialty in Eugene, Oregon, she won Reserve Winner's Bitch for a very nice win, with an entry of 10 other lovely bitches. Cairo finished her AKC Championship on October 24, 2009.
Cairo loves running after those "bunnies," too. In May, 2008, Cairo ran with her brother, Wyatt, to qualify both of them for their ASFA coursing in the future. On June 14 and 15, Cairo, along with brothers Viggo and Wyatt, all ran and qualified for the Junior Coursing (JC) titles, and went on to all place in their first trial. With a total entry of 9 Pharaohs (a 5 pt. major in AKC), Wyatt was 1st place, in a run-off for 3rd place, Cairo finished 4th and Viggo 5th. Menke also finished his Senior Coursing (SC) title and took 2nd place. It will be fun watching all of them as they continue their coursing mania!
Cairo achieved her first AKC "major" by going BOB on on 12/7/08 and her AKC Senior Coursing title on 1/1/09, and got her 2nd "major" on 6/14/09. She finished her AKC lure coursing championship on 11/7/09 in Sacramento, by going BOB that day, with an entry of 11 Pharaoh Hounds. She is also very close to finishing her ASFA coursing field championship.
